Understanding the difference between outputs and outcomes is essential for effective charity management. Outputs are the products or services that an organisation delivers: for charities these are often programs, training or workshops. Outcomes are the benefits that those outputs provide for their beneficiaries, for example enabling disadvantaged school leavers to find and retain a job. This article explains the difference in more detail and provides some good examples. (Harvard Business Review operates a paywall but allows free viewing of a limited number of articles.)
